Treat all as you want to be treated?

In my culture there is a saying:

”Treat everyone the way you want to be treated”

I think it is WRONG!

I believe the saying should be: ”Treat everyone the way THEY want to be treated.”

If you show respect to other people, you don’t assume they want to be treated the way you like, you are curious about their Frame of Reference and try your best to treat them like they want to.
